IT’S NOT MAGIC, IT’S SCIENCE

Dear friends of AbejAmos,

We are delighted to update you on the progress of the “Happy Birthday, Bees” project, which gave us the opportunity to introduce our association to the CEIP Los Bateles in Conil de la Frontera (Cádiz, Spain).

We were invited to take part in the school’s educational project, “It’s Not Magic, It’s Science.”

During the week of 14–18 June 2021, the teachers explored a variety of scientific topics through experiments, presentations, and hands-on workshops. Among these activities, they considered it essential to raise students’ awareness of the risk of extinction facing certain animal species, focusing on our beloved bees and the vital role they play in maintaining healthy ecosystems

A key factor in the success of the project was the excellent coordination with the Year 2 primary school teacher, Manoli, with whom we worked closely throughout the different stages of the programme.

In the second phase of the project, we gave a presentation in the school hall about the work of a beekeeper. We introduced the students to the tools used in beekeeping, the different types of hives, and the valuable products that bees provide.

To conclude the project, we left the beekeeping equipment and educational materials at the school so it could be displayed at the Science Fair, which marked the end of the educational week.

Both the students and the teaching staff showed great interest, enthusiasm, and curiosity throughout the activities. Their participation was truly encouraging and inspires us to continue developing new educational projects.

We would like to thank all the staff at the school for their active involvement, without which this wonderful project would not have been possible. Our special thanks go to the Headteacher, Lola Lago Trujillo, the project coordinator Manoli, and all the teachers and support staff.

Thanks to this initiative, other schools have since contacted us to organise educational activities aimed at raising awareness about the importance of bees.

We look forward to sharing more news with you soon!

Thank you and best wishes,

The AbejAmos Team
